The 1st beanie in the 51 days of Lizzie Bear Beanies is the Acorn Beanie. As you can see, if you change the colors, remove the acorn topper and add ears it becomes an adorable Acorn Bear Beanie or a puff bear beanie! This beanie is a lot of fun to make and also has a fun texture to it as well.

Materials
- Yarn: Medium, Weight 4; Your Color Choice
- Hooks: K (6.50mm)
- Tapestry Needle, Scissors and Measuring Tape
Sizing
- Gauge: 12 Stitches and 10 Rows = 4”x4” (hdc) using K Hook
- These measurements are approximated, measure head to get accurate sizing needed.
- Sizes Included: Newborn
Pattern Key
- St/Sts: Stitch(es)
- Sp: Space
- Sl St: Slip Stitch
- Ch: Chain
- Sc: Single Crochet
- Hdc: Half Double Crochet
Special Stitches:
● Puff Stitch: Yarn over, insert hook in the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and insert hook into the SAME stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and insert hook into the SAME stitch, yarn over and pull yarn through all 7 loops, chain 1 to lock puff stitch into place.
● Decrease Puff Stitch: Yarn over insert hook to the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and insert hook into the NEXT STITCH, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and insert hook into the SAME STITCH, yarn over and pull yarn through all 7 loops, chain 1 to lock puff stitch into place.
Notes:
● Chain 1 will NOT count as a stitch.
● Joining: When ending the rounds, you will join with a slip stitch into the 1st stitch (not the chain 1).
Beanie 0-3 Months: (Circumference 13-14” and Height 5 – 5.5”)
You need your K hook and color choice of yarn.
Make a Magic Ring,
Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. – 7
Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 14
Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 21
Round 4: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 28
Round 5: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 35
Round 6: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next 7 sts, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 8 sts; repeat from*, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 39
Round 7: Ch 1, 1 Puff Stitch in same st, *Decrease Puff Stitch; repeat from*, do not join. – 20 puff stitches.You are now working in continuous rounds, use a stitch marker to mark first stitch.
Round 8: *1 Puff Stitch in next st; repeat from*, do not join. – 20 puff stitches
Repeat Round 8 until the beanie measures 4.5” for newborn size or 5” for 1-3 months size old, then continue to brim.
Brim – Round 1: Join, ch 1, 2 sc in same st, 2 sc in each puff st around, join. – 40 sc
Rounds 2 & 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next st and each st around, join. – 40 sc
Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.
Bear Ears (Make 2)
You Need H Hook and Color Choice of Yarn
Make a Magic Ring,
Round 1: Ch 1, 7 sc in loop, join with a sl st in the 1st sc, pull tight. – 7
Round 2: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, end with 1 hdc in same st as ch 1, join. – 14
Round 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in same st, 1 hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next st; repeat from*, until the last 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, sl st in next st, sl st in same st as ch 1, join. – 21
Fasten off and weave in any loose ends, leaving a long tail to sew the ears onto the beanie. Sew the ears along rounds 4 and 5.
