Did you know that we have a monthly crochet
subscription box called the Leither Collection?
With the love of crochet and everything about it we started a crochet subscription box back in October 2018.
I have been designing crochet patterns since 2012! I love coming up with new designs and having a theme to create those designs. After my husband started making crochet hooks last year after my crochet injury, I became inspired to crochet even more!
Then I started hand dyeing yarn and designing based on the colorway and weight of the yarn, that is when the Leither Collection Subscription Box was born!

In January our theme was (Alice in) Wonderland and last month we went a little Cinderelly with the “A Dream is a Wish” theme. I knew I wanted to continue on this fairy tale theme just a little bit more, so for March we are going under the sea!! I actually started working on this months box when we went to the beach in March for my birthday, in January. I love the ocean and the colors under the sea. Also, may have been obsessed with the Little Mermaid when I was a child and now so is my youngest.
With going under the sea, I knew the colors that we would have a lot in the box that would be blue and green, but I also wanted to carry in the pink color from last month into this months box, to give it a little more bright pop.
Let’s dive a little deeper into our March 2020 Leither Collection Subscription Box!
Last month our yarn colorway was Dream, which had shades of pink and cream on our bulky base. This month we are continuing with that gorgeous pink and cream but adding in some blue and green for our merino yarn. Last month we also introduced our cotton yarn with our hibiscus colorway which was bright pink and this month we are going with our seaweed green colorway.
The merino yarn base this month is a dk weight this month but the fiber is constructed differently than our normal bases as it is fluffy, looks like a handspun thick and thin, it is like crocheting with a fluffy cloud. The merino yarn colorway is called under the sea, it is 100% superwash merino, 240 yards/100 grams.
The cotton yarn this month is a beautiful tonal shade of green on our new cotton dk base, the base has a beautiful look to on it’s own as it looks textured and it is airy and fluffy to crochet with as well. The Seaweed colorway is 100% pima cotton yarn has 218 yards/100 grams and is a dream to crochet with!
Beanies that I love!!

Let’s talk about these gorgeous crochet hooks! First lets talk about the design of the hook this month, it has gorgeous details. The hooks are always designed to not only have gorgeous details but the design helps reduce pressure points in your hand while crocheting! Those curves also bring out the colors and grain in the woods.
To make sure that we always have enough funfetti wood (colored wood) in stock for all of our subscription boxes that include funfetti we now have two different wood colorways each month. The primary color we wanted to have in both woods was green, so if you received a subscription box with funfetti wood you would of received the green, blue and brown or the green and brown crochet hook. Both beautiful hooks.
The crochet hook sizes this month are a G (4mm) crochet hook size!
The natural wood this month is a gorgeous and favorite bolivian rosewood which is a dark brown wood that has beautiful grains in it. All of the hooks are the same gorgeous style and unique in their own way. Which one did you receive?
I now want to show the stitch marker that started the color inspiration for this box this month, meet our adorable blue and green fish, he doesn’t have a name but he is so adorable, that I think he should!
When your a fish under the sea, you need some friends, like a dolphin, mermaid, starfish and mermaid tail. I also love how they all coordinate with my favorite teal color with some pinks and purple too!
In January you launched our stitch marker collections as part of our subscription box and I love creating an entire theme with our boxes and helping bring the to life!
You now have the option to add the stitch maker collection to your subscription box over at www.leithercollection.com
Now lets dive into the crochet patterns! The first pattern in the box was designed with the Under the Sea merino yarn base in the colorway and it is the Under the Sea Beanie. I am officially obsessed with the way this beanie is constructed and the texture! I want to make a million more! When you are working the beanie up you see some color pooling happening but once you sew it together to go from a rectangle to a beanie, the color pooling then turns into more of a confetti look!
The second crochet pattern in the Under the Sea Collection is the Under the Sea Cowl. Since we are under the sea we needed a project that had beautiful seashell like stitches, the cowl is worked in rows and then joined together at the end. This cowl is so easy to customize that you could keep working the cowl until you run out of yarn and make it longer!
Which crochet pattern is your favorite? I loved creating both of these designs.
Both projects are a lot of fun to make, the Under the Sea Beanie is a serious yarn eater, if you are making that beanie in a child size or smaller, one skein is plenty. However if you want to make the beanie in an adult size, you will need another skein. The Under the Sea Cowl is not a big yarn eater, so you will have extra if you follow the pattern as written.
I hope that you are loving having two different crochet patterns to choose from each month!
We love putting together the boxes every month and adding every piece that goes into the box. We brainstorm the yarn colors and decide if the crochet hooks will completely coordinate or complement the yarn. Once I have the colors for the yarn chosen, then I decide what I am going to make. I let the colors of the yarn tell me what it wants to be! We have also loved finding coordinating stitch markers to complete the set.
If you received the February 2020 box I would love to know what your favorite item from the box was. If you didn’t receive the box, would still love to know which item I showed you was your favorite. Remember you can now purchase this as the Dream is a Wish Kit in our store.
You can also purchase extra yarn that was featured in the box!
